How to generate RFID bypass codes for the MiSeq

11/16/18

MiSeq reagents are equipped with a radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag to enable accurate consumable tracking. Independent tracking of the flow cell, reagent cartridge, and PR2 bottle occurs at the beginning of the sequencing run, when sensors at these 3 positions read and write to the RFID. If the RFID fails to be detected , a run can be started using a bypass code created by the MiSeq Self-Service tool available through your MyIllumina account. To generate the code:

  1. Log in to MyIllumina and open the hamburger menu in the upper left corner of the page.
  2. Expand My Tools and select MiSeq Self-Service.
  3. Enter the serial number of your instrument (M#####).
  4. From the Type of Override Code drop-down list, select RFID Override.
  5. Select Get Code to generate the code.

The bypass code is entered directly into MiSeq Control Software, and is valid for 7 days. You will also be prompted to enter the barcode and part number for the consumable. The location of this information on the reagent label is outlined below. The barcode number is highlighted in blue, the part number in yellow.

Multiple RFID failures for the same consumable type could be an indication of a faulty sensor. For persistent issues, email Illumina Technical Support at techsupport@illumina.com.
