The Batteries Directive 2006/66/EC was transposed in Austria through an amendment to the Austrian waste act and a specific batteries Ordinance that followed.
There are different collection and recycling requirements for companies who place portable and industrial batteries on the Austrian market. Illumina products include both industrial and portable batteries. However, due to the way in which Illumina sells these batteries in Austria, Illumina is not classed as a batteries producer in Austria and therefore is not legally required to implement collection and recycling arrangements for these batteries.
Producers of portable batteries must finance the take-back and recycling of waste portable batteries from portable batteries collection points. The producer normally achieves this by joining a local portable batteries compliance scheme and paying a batteries recycling fee.
Due to the way in which Illumina sells portable batteries in Austria, Illumina is not classed as a portable batteries producer in Austria. Illumina is therefore not legally required to join a portable batteries compliance scheme and pay for the collection and recycling for these types of batteries.
You can contact your local authority to identify local collection points where you can dispose of any waste portable batteries you hold.
Producers of industrial batteries must provide arrangements to take-back waste industrial batteries from end-users, when requested, unless other arrangements are contractually agreed.

When Illumina industrial batteries become waste, the end-user must therefore manage disposal of these batteries themselves.
For details of industrial batteries collection and recycling provisions close to you, please contact your local authority, or a local waste contractor through whom you may be able to arrange disposal.

The Batteries Directive 2006/66/EC was transposed in Denmark through an amendment to the ‘Act on Environmental Protection’, of June 2008.
Illumina products include both industrial and portable batteries. There are different collection and recycling requirements for companies who place portable and industrial batteries on the Danish market.
As a portable batteries producer, Illumina finances the municipal collection of waste portable batteries each year through the payment of a portable batteries tax. However, due to the quantity of portable batteries that Illumina sells in Denmark each year, Illumina is not required at this time to finance the collection and recycling of these batteries from municipal collection points, for example, by joining a local batteries producer compliance scheme.
Lead-acid batteries which are supplied as part of Illumina's Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) units are classed as industrial batteries. Producers of industrial batteries, like Illumina, are required to take back and recycle waste industrial batteries from end users when supplying new industrial batteries, unless an alternative contractual arrangement is stipulated. In line with this, Illumina has chosen to require end users of industrial batteries that Illumina sells in Denmark to be responsible for arranging and financing the collection and recycling of these batteries when they reach end-of-life, even when purchasing new industrial batteries from Illumina.
For details of industrial batteries collection and recycling provisions close to you, please contact your local authority, or a local waste contractor through whom you may be able to arrange disposal. You can also contact the Danish Producer Responsibility System (DPA-System) directly for further information, at http://www.dpa-system.dk

Lead-acid batteries which are supplied as part of Illumina's Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) units are classed as industrial batteries. Producers of industrial batteries, like Illumina, are required to set up accessible collection points where end users can return waste industrial batteries, when required.
Illumina has contracted with Ecopilas, who also handle industrial batteries recycling and provide such collection points. End-users of Illumina industrial batteries in Spain have access to these local collection points to dispose of these batteries at end-of-life. To identify a collection point close to you where you can deliver waste Illumina industrial batteries, please contact Ecopilas using the scheme's details above.
The Batteries Directive 2006/66/EC was transposed in Sweden in November 2008, though a new Batteries Ordinance.
Illumina products include both industrial and portable batteries. Like other EU Member States, there are different collection and recycling requirements for companies who place portable and industrial batteries on the Swedish market. However, due to the quantities of portable and industrial batteries which Illumina sells in Sweden, Illumina is not legally required to implement collection and recycling arrangements for these batteries.
Producers of portable batteries must finance the take-back and recycling of waste portable batteries from collection points. The producer normally achieves this by joining a local portable batteries compliance scheme and paying a batteries recycling fee. However, producers are exempt from this requirement if they sell under a certain threshold of batteries in Sweden.
Due to the quantities of portable batteries which Illumina sells in Sweden, Illumina is not legally required to join a portable batteries compliance scheme and pay for the collection and recycling for these types of batteries.
You can contact your local authority to identify local collection points where you can dispose of any waste portable batteries you hold.
Producers of industrial batteries must take back batteries that become waste by ensuring the existence of one or more collection systems.

Switzerland is not part of the European Union and therefore does not have a legal obligation to implement the Batteries Directive into national law. However, Switzerland has implemented its own Batteries and Waste Batteries legislation which implements many of the requirements of the Batteries Directive.
Illumina products include both industrial and portable batteries. As a portable and industrial batteries producer, Illumina pays an Advance Recycling Fee (ARF) to the central batteries compliance scheme INOBAT in Switzerland, to fund the take-back, treatment and recycling of waste portable and industrial batteries from nationwide collection points.

Producers of portable batteries who place on the United Kingdom market more than one tonne of portable batteries per year must finance the collection, recycling and disposal of waste portable batteries, by joining a local portable batteries compliance scheme and paying a batteries recycling fee.
Due to the quantities of portable batteries which Illumina sells in the United Kingdom, Illumina is not legally required to join a portable batteries compliance scheme and pay for the collection and recycling for these types of batteries.

Illumina has established a separate industrial batteries recycling contract with the European Advanced Recycling Network (EARN) to collect and recycle Illumina industrial batteries from end users when they become waste, if requested.
